REFERRALS & EXPERTS of Wirehaird Pointing Griffons Also internationally called Korthals Griffons FROM
OF CHOTEAU, MONTANA PHIL WITH A DEMI PUP Our local trainer and Griffon dog expert is Philip Parsneau. For 30 years, he lived in Western Montana until he moved to Choteau in 2004. All four of the adult Griffons of the Kennel were purchased through Phil and he has watched, trained and even tested these dogs from the kennel, in AKC and NAVHDA hunting tests. Phil has actively and energetically participated in the puppy process here and has trained some of the pups out of our litters. This last September, Phil's Dog, Jacque (Griffe D'Automne Mr Brown) obtained first a Prize I UPT and then, just a couple weeks later, a Prize I Utility Test Score. What is remarkable is that Jacque was only 21 months old and his UT was a perfect 204 point score. And in September of 2009, Jacque became the only new Griffon in North America to achieve the title of a NAVHDA VERSATILE CHAMPION at the Invitational in Ohio. Jacque is a full brother and littermate to our Bullet (Griffe D'Automne Silver Bullet), seen elsewhere in this Website. Phil has traveled throughout the Northwest and the Midwest with dogs and personally knows many of the Griffon kennels and breeders that have produced pups throughout the past 30 years. He has also trained and hunted with other pointers, including Brittanies, Spinonis, Vislas, Weimaraners and German Shorthairs and Wirehairs. He has hunted over all of the adults in our kennel and can give you information on their respective hunt, dispositional and general characteristics. His number is (406) 466 3741 and he will be able to field both general questions about the "Why" of a Griffon as well as detailed information about our own dogs and the puppies which are here or the likely characteristics of the puppies we are anticipating.
SHIRLEY WITH OWEN AND A PUP
SHIRLEY WITH HER PAINTINGS Shirley Flinn is the owner of Owen (AM CAN CH, BIS CDX,RNCL OWEN DES DUNES DU CAPTALAT FDJ), an outstanding and highly successful Griffon and the sire for three past Ear Mountain litters. Owen has the distinction of being one of only five Griffons in all of North America to ever obtain the distinction of being a "Best in Show." Shirley was so dedicated in her pursuit of Griffon Excellence that she traveled to France and bought Owen there. She has been involved with Wirehaired Pointing Griffons since 1989. Over the years, she has participated in many venues of purebred dog activities, such as hunting and hunting tests, obedience trials, conformation dog shows, rally obedience, agility training, and tracking training. In her opinion, the Wirehaired Pointing Griffon is able to compete in all these venues and do very well. I value her vast knowledge of the breed, breed standards and pedigree lineage and excellence. Shirley has traveled all over North America and to Europe to learn more about these Griffons. Her passion for this breed is to see that Griffons remain as Korthals, the breed’s original designer, intended them to be. The hunting instinct, temperament, trainability, health and conformation are all equally important and to lose one of these traits would alter and perhaps cause failure of Griffon’s original purpose as a walking person’s hunting companion. Shirley has visited the Ear Mountain Griffon kennel several times and has spent time with Greg. She personally knows each of the Ear Mountain dogs and she believes
that he shares her passion for the breed and that he is doing his utmost to produce consistently outstanding Griffons. She is always available to talk about the Griffons and can be reached at: You may also wish to talk with Shirley about her oil paining and her fantastic ability to capture the images of animals and people on canvas. I have other WPG Officianados, current owners and fellow hunters who may be available for reference, if you like. Please let me know and I can make them available.
